About our County

Welcome to Crown Green Bowls in Staffordshire. We are confident that you will enjoy the friendship and rivalry that abounds in our sport.

The County

Staffordshire County Bowling Association (SCBA) is the local governing body for crown green bowls in your area. SCBA is a member county of the National Governing Body; The British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA).

SCBA commonly referred to as “The County” covers bowling in and around the following areas:- Stafford, Lichfield, Cannock, Rugeley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, South Staffordshire and parts of Dudley and Sandwell.

Its composition

SCBA has 22 affiliated leagues and around 110 affiliated clubs.

The business of the Association is run by a Management Committee. This comprises of elected officers plus one nominated representative from each affiliated league.

The Management Committee usually meet monthly during the bowling season to discuss the business of the association.

The AGM and Rules Revision meeting are held in February each year, when all clubs and leagues must send a representative. Officers of the Association are elected at the AGM.

What it does

SCBA fully supports all bowlers, male, female and juniors (under 18).

Leagues, almost without exception, accept mixed teams and have no minimum age limit.

SCBA organises junior, senior, ladies and veterans individual merit competitions.

There are also: Ladies Pairs, Mixed Pairs and Open Pairs competitions.

The winners of these competitions go forward to represent SCBA in BCGBA and / or BCGLBA individual merit and pairs competitions.

SCBA also organise two major team competitions; The Staffordshire Challenge and Consolation cups.

There is also a coaching scheme which may help you to improve your skills. Once you have become established you may wish to take up refereeing or instruction courses, this can be done through the Association’s Development programme.

How you can be involved

It is possible to play league bowls almost every day of the week should you wish to do so. For veterans, each area of the County has thriving ‘veterans leagues’ which operate on various mid-week afternoons.
